Re: SM-7B and LA-610
I've done a bunch of vocals with that combination. Sold my LA-610 when I built my first "real" LA-2A but keep thinking about how easy it was to get a great sound with it.

Rudy Van Gelder website - gear & history galore
I just spent a fascinating couple of hours reading the entirety of the Rudy Van Gelder Legacy website. Lots of pics and information about the living room studio and the larger facility he built in 1960, and insights from the musicians and people he worked with. Even if you're not into jazz, the gear...

Re: RIP Chris Garges @cgarges
I feel like I know Chris but I really only know him from interacting with him here and reading his reviews in TapeOp. But those interactions on here weren't trivial - he was always so incredibly generous with sharing his time and knowledge, even if I was just some dude recording stuff in a bedroom. ...

help Boulevard Recording recover from a fire
I just heard about this - as if Zippah in Boston wasn't bad enough, Boulevard Recording in Hollywood suffered a devastating fire late last year. This is the former Producer's Workshop space (Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, et al.)

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....
I went through a cross-country move (Los Angeles to Nashville) 2 years ago and unloaded a LOT of my equipment. It was a tough decision, but I decided that things I bought but hadn't used much weren't worth moving, broken things weren't worth moving, things that were heavy but easy to replace weren't...

Just did a bunch of bass tracking this week. DI channel was Cinemag DI box I built into a Neve-ish preamp from Sound Skulptor, into a Hairball 1176. Since I built all the gear, I guess that could be the DIy channel. Amp channel was an Ampeg B15N mic'd with a 421, then into a UA LA610. That's a whole...

Have you thought about adapting something from the cine lighting world? Matthews, Manfrotto, Mole-Richardson etc all make tons of interesting clamps and adapters. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=33138&gclid=CjwKEAiAmuCnBRCLj4D7nMWqp1USJABcT4dfwUUq9cTm9EoliAsOA9jDzXAOrs8q-0h-LR...

Last month I decided it was foolish to continue to pay $100 a month to store $1000 worth of gear. I gave my 1/2" 8 track and some reels to a friend who runs a media department at a high school, but donated a Behringer eurodesk, a couple of busted ADATs, a 4x10 with a blown speaker, a couple of beat ...

It's a Charlie Bukowski Christmas!
Bah humbug. Little late for this I guess. As far as I know there is no extant recording of Charles Bukowski reading my favorite poem about Christmas. So I made one myself. A little drone guitar/drum thing for the background and spoken word. LA2A. https://soundcloud.com/twin-lens-reflex/christmas-eve...
