Re: Early 80's Marshall sound

non-master volume heads, JMP's 100 watt plexi's every knob all the way up,nothing like it Amen. Those JCM800 2-12" combos are pretty damn cool, too. I don't know what the rest of the country is like, but they are too much here in NYC. I remember seeing a 1-12" a while back for around $900. Sheeesh!...

Re: Silly client expressions

I had the lead vocalist of a reggae band from ohio instruct me to "add some niceness".

No problem, dude.

It an older Gretsch solid body w/ dual humbuckers, a BST-1000 I believe. I think it was like a student model, but it plays really nicely.

Re: Protestors are a target market demographic

I think it?s pretty freakin? brilliant, actually. Talk about making a statement to which there is no come-back.

Plus, Koch was in on the deal, and there?s no bigger New Yorker than him.

Re: Just when I thought my job had run out of ways to screw

That sucks, man. If it's any consolation, I just got out of a meeting at work yesterday where they said, "if X Y and Z bad things happen to our funding, one person out of every three in this room will not be here any more in two years." Everyone looked around at each other dumbfounded and it was re...

Re: I need help selecting a parametric EQ

Also, check ebay for an Orban - they're usually going for around $750 for 2-channels. They were made for broadcast but a lot of studio guys dig 'em. They have a pretty meaty sound. I foget the model #, but it's NOT the programmable one. Those are junk. My $0.02 Sis $750?! I just bought one for $160...

Re: non-musical day job that doesn't suck?

... why don't you look into doing tech work for studios or local venues? I would actually like doing that, I think, but never worked on that side so I never got the skills/contacts. Maybe I'll keep my current day job while I tech for free for a while. Hmmmm... I've thought about custom gear too, bu...

Re: Live Sound: Feedback

Bomb,

I agree that the parametrics are more accurate. But in my time in live sound, I worked with some pretty high-end rigs, and there were always graphics. We knew how to use a parameteric, but I guess we're all lazy!

non-musical day job that doesn't suck?

I need a change. I'm an EE by day for a company in the Telecom industry and anymore, I can't stand it. There's no job stability, it's not creative, not fulfilling, blah blah blah, etc, etc. The only real advantage is that it pays way better than trying to make a living on audio in NYC. So now I'm br...

Re: Live Sound: Feedback

I've done my time running FOH and monitors... I agree with the above that mixing w/o an EQ will make your hair fall out. But, everybody uses graphics, not parametrics. IMO they are faster to dial in, and that's what counts when there is feedback during the performance. You don't have to really "try"...
