Ambassadors are great if you are changing them regularly.

A coated Emperor is a 2 ply head that gives you more bottom
but still has some snap. Tuning is a little easier. It is a good head
if your OH's are your main sound and you are adding close mics to that
sound. Emperors are durable.

this is sorta related..... back in the '90's when there were a lot of "Jr A&R Men" meddling in records...most likely had been to some kind of Jr College Music Business class or something.... They were asking for all these mixes...Vocal Up 1, Vocal up 2, Vocal Down, Solo Up....bla bla bla... really t...

Does anyone use a stereo mic as an overhead? I've got Scodiddly's Stereo Alice set up to try this but haven't yet hit record.... I don't know that mic but I bet you'll like it. We have been using the Royer SF12 for several years as the main drum overhead at CTS. I usually have it from 42 to 48 inch...

ah, thanks VVV. Pro Jr's are pretty darn good. Joel, I have used the Pro Jr live with a cabinet and without. For a while I was using two of them with one powering a Bassman 2 x 12 cab and the 2nd Pro Jr powering both 10" speakers from the "heads". I used that rig for quite a while w Steve Earle. The...

Pro Jr. is great w a closed back cabinet (picks up some bottom)

It gets shipped with a really cheap speaker (to keep costs down)

Replacing the speaker with something like the Jensen P10R really makes
the Pro Jr. sounds great.

That place was incredibly expensive and unfriendly. For a 'big studio' they didn't have much of a maintanance crew. They did have "The Sony Humidor" and "The Sony Wine Cellar". Its not like losing RCA or A & R or Media Sound or even the Hit Factory (a few studios lost to real estate in NYC)

get a tape measure out. For starters the two speakers and your listening position should form an equilateral triangle. If you find you've got a lot of bass going on you may try to move the speakers further away from the back wall. Are you right handed or left handed? You may want to put the stuff th...

I'm in my second Open Room studio (been there for 8 yrs) at this point. Don't make me sit in that little room again:) See you at the Panel, Eric Ambel I've been working almost exclusively "open room" for the past three years at Verdant. For me, and the types of music I work with, the pluses outweigh...
