I must be living under a rock....I just found out that he died one year later and am so sad....I had no idea. I'm shocked...what a special guy. I can't believe I didn't read about it. I saw him at Brownies in NYC around 95 (Easy Come Easy Go) and he was utterly amazing. His records were of course go...

Tascam DM 4800/ x 48 combo
In my quest for a non-Pro Tools set up, I am considering this interesting combo. Can anyone provide feedback/insight? Quite frankly I feel the ROOM is going to influence the sound of my tracks more than any Neve, or other preamp combo so that's where I'm putting my $ at least initially Any thoughts ...

Gilmour and Co. are tripping over themselves in high end gear. Have you ever heard of a Shakti Stone? Google it...they have a few of those. Also, nearly every piece of equipment is modified by Tim deParavacini of EAR. The Astoria isn't much bigger that most people's bedrooms but it certainly sees it...

Well, I made the original post and since my original post, Apple comes out with Logic 8. Seems like Apple might be trying to make Logic the 'final cut pro' of audio (remember, Avvid was the go to platform--now it's final cut pro). The symphony set up is appealing. I think for me, the right (low cost...

This is great feedback...thanks everyone. I am leaning very hard towards an HD 2 for a few reasons (thanks to Fremitis and others) - I MUST succeed commercially and cannot afford to be an 'island' even though I much prefer the creativity, etc. of Logic for my own use. - My work will entail lots of o...

Joel, maybe you can give me a little more insight... I am an aspiring commercial facility (i.e. have a professionally designed room, enough experience to get it off the ground) with no 100% commitment to a recording medium (have worked in Logic which as I've said is great but has fiddly limitations)...

Pro Tools aversion
I have been avoiding the Pro Tools platform for years--mainly due to what I consider to be excessive pricing, version chasing, monopolistic advantages, etc. etc. I have not been successful in finding a 100% workable alternative. I am a Logic user, but have found that Logic can be clumsy and fiddly w...

"And that there are a lot of U67s and KM86s in action." Really? Where are U67s being used? Did anyone ever notice that Nick Mason used red electrical tape over cymbal washer/pads to muffle his drums (which sound great)? He used (and uses) Paiste of course. Though I was surprised to read that the rid...

Steve Clarke had a nice touch and definitely rates high in the 'feel' department for me. Slick productions, but clearly some long hours and refinement was put into it...I respect that. (this is coming from someone who avoided this kind of stuff like the plague when it came out!!) Oh well. It's kind ...

I think I'm in a time warp or something.....
I'm just now getting into Def Leppard....Hysteria. Am freaking out at the sheer skill of Steve Clarke and Phil Collen. Did you ever listen to this on headphones? I don't think I've ever heard a pair of better guitarists in this genre. Absolutely freaking amazing. Contrasting styles too--Collen doing...

Thanks for all the feedback! I am going from the MacBook (1g) via firewire to the 828, then out to a 160 GB 7200 drive.... I suspect it might be the power, which is sketchy at the location I'm in (as drumsound suggested) or a firewire cable. I was unable to replicate the problem at home using all th...
