if you're using it as a house kit, I think it's totally worth it to get a good kit. they don't size drums for a person's size, but you can set them up to fit how you play. If they have the sound you like, go for them! About 6 years ago I walked into a sam ash and found a 6 piece dw kit used. Honey r...

Thanks for the info so far. This will kindof be my break into the "real" market, so I can't pretend to be some hot producer :-). I know it's a lot easier to negotiate once the first record is done and it has some actual sales. It's also easier once I've had a deal with points included. I can use tha...

When should I worry about points?

This isn't an immediate concern, but it's something I don't know much about. There are few full-length albums that I'm possibly working on next year that will have significant distro (for what I'm used to anyhow). I will be producing these records as well as engineering. At what point should I worry...

it's a choice like tuning vocals, or copy/paste, or editing anything for that matter. If the drummer is simply incapable of of playing time with feel, he gets edited. I've never had a band that didn't appreciate me taking the time to make them not suck. I would totally understand if a drummer came i...

If you right click on the blob (I use a pc) you will open up a list of tools. Continue holding the right button until your cursor is over the tool you want to select and then let go. It should change to the proper tool. Also in the preferences somewhere it should allow you to put a toolbar up on the...

Hmm.. my uno has both pitch drift and vibrato functions working fine, all tools are a go. Also if I hold down the alt key while moving the blob I can move in cent increments.

To me it's the same as going down to a mono guitar in the verse or bridge and then exploding with 4 huge tracks in the chorus. Dynamic mixing seems to be more important than ever now that the mixes are getting crushed at the final stage. It probably is getting cliched, but there are a limited number...

For the scene I'm in, Myspace does wonders. It's got a crappy sounding player, but virtually all band networks go through there at some point. I'll also second going out and seeing shows. Showing you care about the scene and the bands in it, will open more doors than you can believe. You are nothing...

I'm using the soft synth in cubase. when I'm recording it, everything sounds fine, but as soon as I playback the part has magically jumped 2 seconds foward. I have this feeling, I'm missing something obvious...

midi question in cubase 4

I'm not much of an expert in midi, so this might be very obvious. As soon as I'm finished recording midi parts using an instrument track, the computer somehow manages to place the played parts about 2 seconds ahead of where they were played. The part immediately now sounds all jacked up and I have t...

6 1/2 by 14 mapex birdseye maple snare.
I have one of these, and love it! Got it from a drummer from another band we were touring with. Went to radiostar studios in Weed, CA and used it on every track on the album even with 15 other snares behind me. :-)

I was gonna ask on the 160. Could I stick that in front of a more metal rig and get tones I like, or would the poor ribbons explode?
