he would play through the song until he got tired, take a break, then punch.

putting the computer in another room and using extension cabes is a great idea.

the second best is to make your pc nearly silent. silentpcreview.com rules.

use AMD, because their chips tend to run cooler (from my anecdotal experience), and therefore you can really undervolt your fans.

big church? are all instruments running through the PA?

if you use a directional lav and some filtering (dont record a gate or compression) you should be alright.
