Bosnian Rainbows

It's omar rodriguez-lopez's (mars volta, at the drive-in) new band, with deantoni parks. I don't know how much media exposure they get, but I thought I'd spread the word here. I've seen their second show ever and been blown away. D. is playing drums one handed, the other one playing keys. Their reco...

just some random thoughts trying to give some perspective here you're OHs sound pretty decent and realizing that most of your drum sound is indeed from the OHs i'd say you're fucked kidding:) but i agree that this issue is usally best dealt with before recording you'll spend 1 hour while setting up....

hm.. did you talk to them about it? I mean you shouldn't ask us when you have the chance to talk to them directly you'd learn more that way if stuff like that happens to me I tell them that the time I spend on cleaning up the files and bouncing stems for someone else to mix it will probably take alm...

depends on the snare and how you want it to sound, really. I often use the MD421 on the snare if say a 57 sounds too tiny or not enough bottom and then it's just perfect at the same time if i'm using the MD421 and the snare sounds too muffled without detail i move to something like a 57 or a condens...

When recording something a little unusual I used to walk around the room until I heard what I felt was the right balance and then place a mic in that position (sometimes I would up one ear and focus on that open ear only pointed at the instrument. +1 that's a good starting point, no matter what ins...

not bad at all but to be honest it kinda sounds like ... well... a demo for reasons like carl said it sounds overall unprocessed, which is not a bad thing per se but it depends on what the band wants to do with the demos remember that the "common" listener is used to really compressed and "overprodu...

haha don't worry, I don't think we don't disagree THAT much I'm not saying you can't get a good kick sound without eq the last set of songs I did with my drummer were very distorted guitar oriented and noisy but the kick cuts through although I haven't even touched a fader yet however that doesn't s...

if you have a ridiculous wall of guitars to contend with, all rules, common sense, and good taste go out the window. you just do whatever you have to do to get it to work. listen to the man btw, at what point do you guys consider eq as "dramatic"? like ...more than 8db? more than 12? just curious a...

IME it doesn't really matter much what mic configuration you use if the drummer doesn't balance well... even if you use all close mikes it doesn't sound "right" but if he does i've found something like david said to be very helpful, using something like a "heart"-mike or a FOK can get you a long way...

YUS! KNEW IT!

haha
my drummer (huge funk fan) always goes like
"no man, why would we only use one mike if we can use 10 and then you can do more while mixing"

but that's just how you get that damn funky sound!!
good job

no that's not what i meant!! you don't have to remove anything! just take a q-tip and clean the contacts, you can access them pretty easily, i mean if you can fit a guitar cable in there a qtip should fit just nice ;) is the unit still under warranty? also to further circle the cause of this malfunt...
