Anyone else chime in on this? I'm really considering one around tax time as I think it suits how I intend to work (primarily live/mobile recording and personal use).

I personally would suggest getting the dedicated video card if only for the reason that at least you would free up resources from your CPU and memory allowing it to do other things like run plugins.. I know that Pro Tools says that it requires a dedicated video card, though I've never tested this re...

I have built a few BYOC pedals...they aren't bad...really pretty good actually...I only have a couple store-bought pedals left. Not really sure what you mean by "almost as expensive as the originals"...maybe at original MSRP but not originals on eBay... Yeah I think they are a bit spendy but I'm als...

Hard to say...but if you don't know much about working on tube amps then I wouldn't be the first to say "send it to a tech." I can do some amp stuff like changing tubes and biasing...but I'll leave the fun stuff to a tech that I have no experience doing in an amp (I am handy with a soldering iron, b...

To each their own...but I think that most modern synths that you are likely to find at Guitar Center are really too preset-intensive for my interests. Even the really decent digital synths like Nords... I feel extremely restricted on something like a Microkorg...both because of the keyboard size and...

Yeah I've seen a 2 track Studer on Craigslist here for awhile with the price constantly going down...and there are plenty of studios in Kansas City so apparently they don't want to mess with it either. Personally I think that the maintenance/et cetera would still be an issue with a modern produced m...

And here I am thinking that you'd just figured out how to literally record to a spool of duct tape..now that would be truly amusing. I recorded a bunch of "demos" for a band I was in a few years ago and then we took some time off, and when we came back to them some of my sessions had become scramble...

FYI, Rondomusic.com occasionally sells something similar to this called the "Stomp Box" by SX. It is $15 and is much smaller...looks about the size of a 1590 enclosure...I almost ordered one but they were sold out. It is a piezo and meant to simulate a kick drum through a guitar amp.

I've been debating the same thing in my head...though I already use Pro Tools M-Powered with a cheesy M-Audio 1814... I'm debating whether recording in Pro Tools is that important, thinking about just getting a Presonus StudioLive and recording to something else, and if I really have to use Pro Tool...

Korg DW-8000.EX-8000. Somewhat limited with digital oscillators and env generators (not fast enough for snappy attacks) but huge fat sounding filters. I had a DW-8000 for about a year and I sold it...definitely don't regret that one... I personally would stay away from a broken Arp (unless it was s...

I personally would avoid the hassle of ADB->USB because a USB model isn't all that expensive...not to mention that the new trackballs are optical so they work much better. I bought a Logitech trackball about 8 months ago and its awesome...highly recommended, works flawless with XP.

Is it difficult to fix analog synths? I've been reading up on electronics and been getting into modifying equipment, so if it's simple like replacing non-surface mount parts I think I'll be ok. I found a broken Arp Odyssey that would be great if I can get it working. Its not so much that it is diff...

I think for $300 you are asking a lot...a lot of analog synths that you were able to get in that price range in the late 90s/early 00s have doubled and tripled in value. I had made a nice collection of stuff "back then" because it was cheap, Roland HS-60 (yes it sounds just like a Juno 106, but the ...

I have the M-Audio Firewire 1814, which is essentially the same thing as the Project Mix without the control surface. I think the sound quality is not so great, you can probably get something better today for the same money... Not experienced with any control surface/audio combos besides the obvious...
