Re: Has anyone used Ward Beck mic pre's?

I have a pair of WB 470 EQs which Dave Thomas racked for me. They sound great, tho the asking price from your buddy is too high. Dave will rack you a pair for around $700 shipped give or take condition. Mine are the Pre's with no EQ, tho I have used the EQ as well. They are my favorite preamp for ba...

Re: Re-tubing U47?

Please do not ruin this mic by using anything other than a VF14 tube. Yes they are expensive but will last like 30 years on that tube. buy it and enjoy it. If you cant afford it, sell the mic and buy a soundelux and something else nice too.

Re: Microphones on Airplanes

My lawson ships with a air tight case. it has a pressure valve to equalize the pressure when you arrive at your destination. I dont know if it helps but I use it anyway.

Re: Lawson L47

I owned 3 at one time tho I only own 2 now. I dont think they sound a lot like a 47, they dont have the same thickness and creamy shean. They are some of my favorite mics tho. they have a bright extended top end and a smooth sexy midrange. They are clean and clear enough to use where you would use a...

Re: what should my first microphone purchase be?

I would get a shure ksm32 or 44, you can probably get one used and still leave you money for a beyer m88 and a pair of oktava mics. Get a good well rounded cabinet then buy some big dog mics.

Re: Mic upgrade advice needed

I like the ev868 best for kick, however, I would get an m88 in your situation, its a good kick mic, a good guitar mic and a great bass speaker mic.

I think the big green item at the top is a gates tube limiter. They sound amazing. A close friend has 2 stereo ones plus 6 more mono Gates. Its a 6ft rack with 10 channels of compression!

Re: Won a ECOPLATE reverb!

most of the good ones Ive seen had eyeholes in the top which hung it suspended from a pipe frame or heavy duty ceiling anchors using forged rather than bent eye bolts. Most used aircraft cable to suspend it from.

Re: Acoustic Guitar Miking!!!

for solo guitar or acoustic lead parts, I usually use a pair of mics that compliment the guitar and place them ORTF using the high E and low E as my left and right. I put them either closer to the head or closer to the bridge but never in front of the sound hole. If it has to fit into a mix, then an...

Re: Tube Amp for ipod...sit down first....

yes, that amp is totally useless, and this is coming from someone who owns $40k worth of speakers and amps (not counting live gear). But, I am consistently amazed at how good a well made AAC track sounds coming off my ipod. It sounds better than a portable CD player with a shitty transport and shitt...

start with the other ideas till you like the sound. then duplicate the track and compress the hell out of the duplicate track. Blend to taste.

Re: Neumann CMV 563

Like any older mic, they all sound a little different. and they might require manitenance, and the original power supplies all need to be recapped or you need to buy a new one from the mic shop, korby, ot tubelife. That being said, you want to own at least the M7s capsule, this is the short M7 capsu...
