Hello All, If anyone out there has an extra CAD M-179 that they want to get rid of that works perfectly, has both the shockmount & stand mount with the hardcase let me know. It's wierd... I did a quick search on the guy's eBay user name to see if he had posted stuff like this before & he is no longer a registered user. That's odd... I was just trying to bust the guy's balls a little, I never meant to make him quit eBay altogether.

You can replace the input transformer with a Jensen JT-115KE 1/10 ratio. The 10 k resistor from the cathode to ground can be bypassed with a 47 uf cap to lift gain. Dennis, Try a Studio Projects VTB-1 if you're looking for a ribbon-friendly Pre on the cheap... plenty of gain & you can find them used for under $100. IMO, keep it on the Solid-State setting though. When the starved-plate tube is mixed in, it doesn't sound great with a ribbon mic. BTW - I checked o...

Avoid the D PowerPlug... very noisy! If you must use one of these get the FetHead from Michael at oktavamod.com.

Just so you know, I tried one on a ribbon mic & it does change the tone of the mic substantially... not bad, just different.
