That's interesting, I've always found just the opposite -LDCs always sound better at least 1' away from source.

Where have you seen a good deal on a 563? I'll buy it right away, PS or not. I've got a lovely M7 capsule that's been dying for a home for years. To clarify -everyone's opinion is just that - an opinion. But in the purist sense of audio objectivity, I have always defined the "best" sounds to be thos...

Producer=the guy who has the phone numbers of the really good musicians and the best restaurants in the area. Lucky sons of bitches. It's amazing to me the ones that can't play very well.

Re: has anyone tried Telefunken V672 mic pre?
Yes, I've used them - and been honest about them. Wipe the drool off your face because it's old, metal, and German. Because they stink. Very hyped, treble laced sound, like a KM84 through an API (ewwwww), disjointed, klunky mids. These things were made when transistor designs were first gaining stea...

Q: An English horn, a Viola, and an accordian are all thrown off a roof. Which hits first?
A: Are you certain they were all thrown off?
Q: What's a viola good for?
A: Firewood.
Q: What do you do if a trombone player comes to the door?
A: Give him the money, take the pizza.
-cheers

Re: MIKING AN ACOUSTIC BASS??? JAZZ ACOUSTIC BASS
Two U87s about 6 inches off the side of the bass pointing at the F holes, panned hard left and right. It's Jay Newland's technique, and it works well.
Sub 4050s or 4033s - same thing.

Re: Strangest Studio Techniques U Ever Used?
Once pumped a drum mix back into the room speakers to try adding some room reverb - I guess the speakers hadn't been used in a while cuz one of them EXPLODED on the first snare hit. We sampled that sound it was THE snare sound for half the record. Very strange, but apropos. Next time some jackass pr...

Re: old or vintage mics
I did have a very cool experience once - I saw a RCA 44 ribbon practically disintegrate - I was hanging out in the shop with our Tech, who was testing out a mod he'd read about making a 44 transformerless (beginning of bad idea begins here) - as the fletchster said - no problems if the mic is fine, ...
