"pushers"?

Anyway, a 120:120v isolation transformer is not an insanely expensive part (in my opinion) and if it is an AC amp you'd better get one added for safety's sake, expensive or no.

Get a 3-wire plug put on that airline amp now! AFTER you do that, plug both amps and anything else with an AC cord into one outlet via a multistrip. Different outlets can have different "ground potentials", resulting in shock when you bridge one ground to another with your body. But, get a 3 wire-pl...

Hmmm, I like to use the volume knob to vary the tone from clean to distorted and shades in-between. If you've never had a setup that can do that, try one - it's quite nice. And easier than walking over to the amp in mid-song. I use pick hand technique for this. Strumming more gently cleans up the a...

Here's some more devil's advocacy. I buy used CD's. Am I robbing anyone? Before you answer, recall that the music industry fought against used cd sales for years, but eventually lost, because of the doctrine of first sale. Who knows how may times that used CD has been resold? The only difference bet...

I have never been into monkeying with the volume and tone on a guitar. Thats what an amp is for! Hmmm, I like to use the volume knob to vary the tone from clean to distorted and shades in-between. And yet the means available to listen to that music are strikingly inadequate. These two realities are at odds. Sooner or later, things are going to go in one direction or the other--either music will become markedly less important, or sound quality will become markedly more important. I think it's...

Maybe just fix one and sell them both as a package deal if your money is tight. Definitely don't toss them.

Yea I meant tracking both at the same time, not doubling with another amp. But I've also reamped to crap solid-state amps to get a blend. Gorillas, Fender Jam, Roland Cubes. Thus the "on the sly" part of my original post. People don't go to studios to record through a Crate. I've used a 9 volt power...

I suspect from it's description that it's got some clipping diodes in there somewhere. Finding these and removing them should get you a "clean boost".
What he said. But, get a schematic.

Mixing tube and solid-state amp sounds

For big loud sounds I like to mix a solid-state amp in with the tube amp. It kind of fills in the sound. Other people don't seem to be hearing what I'm hearing. I have to kind of do it on the sly. Am I crazy or am I on to something? Do you guys do this?
