Thanks, great info again. After going through the links and various other places they took me, I think a new slab is going to be the winning solution. The house is a large terrace about 100 years old with nice thick walls throughout, so I'm expecting the ground to be sturdy underneath the floorboard...

There's nearly always a trade off risk with mono playback, or on hifi speakers wired out of phase, but its largely about delaying part or all of the signal.
