I've been thinking about this a lot lately too. Maybe I just suck at mixing. Something similar that I've thought of is that when I was in my teens (I'm 25) I jammed too many times in my friend's "little back room" with all the windows closed, half-stack Marshall cranked up to 11, bass thumping, drum...

I'm a drummer, so I find taking the snare out of the center to be a little strange...it should be coming from between my knees. Thanks for all the input. this quote by The Scum raises a question I've always had. The above is true of you are the drummer, not a member in the audience. If you are in t...

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm gonna try the hard panned EQs thing in a bit. One of my main concerns is the fact that this mono drum track includes the kick and that doing anything to it may adversely affect the kick drum/bass relationship as well as the possibility of creating more issues if this ...

Mono Electric Kit Drums

I recorded a band and the drum setup was a high hat, a snare drum (both miked independently) and an electric kit which includes the toms. kick(!) and cymbals(!!!) The electric kit was recorded mono onto one track. I'm doing the mixing and was wondering what your guys' and girls' thoughts are on the ...

I'm thinking maybe turn the whole control rig around so that the back of the speakers are facing the man who sleeps in semi-casual clothing. That way you can treat the first reflections from the speakers symmetrically? I don't know how easy it would be to slip back there past the console with that ...

Moved some stuff around here and pulled console away from the wall (also removed desk and added NS10s on cylindrical stands!):

Here's a pic of that suggestion though. At least that's what I think you mean.

And here's my breakfast in case it plays any factor in this:

Thanks for the reply! I see what you're saying, only problem is the "L" shaped cabinets/cupboards to the right of the sketch cannot be moved so there would be no room to walk between the cupboards and the bed.. They're glued in and have thin granite counter top and splash. Plus the door is to the ri...

Tiny mixing/control room

Trying to make my room into a place I can at least try to do some mixing in. The focus being mixing room. Ceilings are somewhere in the 7' + but not 8'. I have a sketchup of the rough dimensions in case anyone wants to see and possibly make some suggestions on treatments. I kind of did some minor th...

KLH Speakers: Interesting

Hello, I have some Big KLH Home Speakers. They are 42.5 inches tall and each have one tweeter, one midrange, and two 12 inch woofers...allegedly! I opened them up once and found out that one of the 12 inch woofers is a dummy! It has the frame and cone and all that, but no magnet or moving-coil eleme...

Leoplold,

Thanks for sharing your experience. How much did that fix run you? I'd like to keep the board, but that problem is a major hassle.

Also,

Does anyone know of a 'tech' that works on consoles and/or electronic equipment that can fix this in the San Diego area?

Thanks.

24/96 on a CD-R?

Ok, I just exported some tracks recorded at 24/96 and burned them onto a CD-R. Using Sonar 6 I exported the audio at 32/96 and...it burned it? I loaded the CD-R back into the computer and right-clicked on one of the tracks to view its properties and, sure enough, it says 32 bit 96khz sampling rate.....

Thanks for the suggestions. Larry, I'm just starting out recording bands and what not and this a terrible problem! When I found out it was happening I "compensated" by just not using those channels, but it started happening to 2 consecutive channels and one other the other day while recording a band...

Topaz Project 8 channels cut out and in

Hi, I have a Sountracs Project 8 24 channel console (no meter bridge). So far I have used almost a whole can of Deoxit trying to get the pots, faders, and switches back in working (silent) order. One problem I am having that I have not been able to fix is that channels 5 and 8 seem to cut out or dim...
