i wanna record rock bands on a mac. what would be a good round minimum for processing speed and minimum ram quantity?

let's say i record some songs on my mac g5 with tiger. can those tracks be opened and manipulated on a mac g4 with an os other than tiger or a garageband with a newer or older version?
