Re: Tube amp guru, help me
7591's are a bit oddball, and the current versions i know of aren't much more than an approximation of the original spec. I'd assume a modern production amp would accommodate this, but, for instance, my Ampeg vastly prefers the EH over JJ variety, and it still required some circuit tweaks due to mod...

Re: Acoustic Panels (DIY? Cheap?)
I would imagine you want to consult a structural engineer as well - once you start hanging a lot of extra mass from the structure that may not have been designed for that? don't want your roof/floor to cave in... here's a floor deflection calculator: https://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/deflecto.pl...

Re: Fabric for bass traps/absorbers
How does treating fabric with flame retardant spray compare to fabric that is flame retardant?

Re: Auratone clones
Didn't realize it had been that long since i built these :D I ended up building another each of the RS100P and Tang Band. They sit atop each other, with the RS pushed back about an inch so that the cones are phase aligned. I use the Tang Bands for about half of my mixing, getting a lot of "the meat"...

(24v minus voltage drop of LED)/LED current rating = minimum resistance value.
But the white LEDs i've encountered tend to be blindingly bright, so beyond that it's best to experiment with larger resistances to find what actually looks good.

Re: Truth time- incredibly dumb things you did when you didn't know any better
2000ish. Had just recorded my ep on a boss br8. Didn't have a computer myself, so I got a friend who knew computers and stuff to help me get it on to cd. First we tried to use his standalone zip drive to get the files onto his laptop. When that didn't work, went into the mic input. Using whatever l...

Re: Yamaha mt8x
Nothing much to add yet. Following since I’ve got an mtx8 incoming that will need some work and I would like to do it all in one fell swoop. It only plays for a short time, sounds like it needs a belt replacement most likely according to this video: https://youtu.be/PhEQbCKqBMc I found the belts at...

Another option would be those little electric radiators, which put out decent heat and are (mostly) silent.jmann wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 10:16 amNOW YOU'RE TALKINGvvv wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 2:37 pm
Bullet heater might help, and add a element of danger to get the band psyched.

Yamaha mt8x
The capstan motor in my mt8x went bad years and years ago and it's been sitting in a closet ever since. Lately I've been trying to resurrect it. I replaced the original motor with one I found on ebay. Transferred the brass pressfit pulley on to the new shaft. The transport would engage, play for 3-4...

Re: I need help High Passing
It's def not a universal thing, it's really case by case. It's not something I'd do when tracking, especially if you're tracking yourself. I think it's extra important to keep the engineering decisions to the minimum when you're recording yourself so you can focus on playing. Interesting. That last...

Been here since 05ish and honestly these are the discussions I still need and appreciate the most. This place has certainly evolved over the years but it's always seemed novice friendly/accessible.

Alignment of one drum's peak in every mic means most every other part of the kit is now not time aligned.

Re: Lost in the wilds of lo/mid-fi -- your thoughts please.
I always thought mixing in stereo was a bit easier than mono because you can sorta move competing instruments off to the sides, out of each others' way. I need to buy new monitors anyway--maybe I should just get one? I tried tracking/ mixing in strict LCR for a hot minute and thought I'd really stu...

Re: How important is it to mic the bottom of a snare?
if you happen to be a UAD user, the Little Labs IBP plugin works great for this (and don't have to zoom in - just turn the knobs and listen...) I tried that plugin for lining up bass amp/DI once or twice. Maybe I didn't really get it, but nudging the wave was a lot easier (and free) for me. Not a U...
