Unless the track is ONLY going to be on myspace, I wouldn't even think about it. People using myspace generally don't care much about the details of audio quality when they're listening to tracks on there. Rolling off high end above 12khz and keeping an eye on 8k-10k should tame most of the obvious ...

Well, I've been put in my place!

Maybe it isn't a rule. Maybe I should just get better with my timing or something. I just know it's killed a vibe before and figured I'd pass this info along.

I guess it's all about timing and purpose. I know I've just been proud of something I've been working on and showed it to a client thinking they would share my enthusiasm. It usually just kills whatever vibe was making things so much fun in the first place. I'm young, excited and somewhat stupid som...

Yeah, if you're listening to other people's music, definitely end with something recorded poorly if you want your client feeling good about where you're at in his project so far. It's a bit evil to do this (and less important as you get better at what you're doing), but I definitely know the feeling...

A no-no: Playing other sessions for clients.

I'm learning how quickly this ruins the vibe of a session. So, just a note to anyone who might not have picked up on the damage this can do - NEVER play your other recording sessions for the client, even if you think they'd be interested. Wait for a meeting that doesn't include working on their reco...

There are hundreds of ways to find your career in music. Every route will get you there if you personally have what it takes. The fee for any of those schools could be used towards gear if you're decent at marketing and know how to keep a small studio busy. As more of a do-it-yourselfer, I'd suggest...

Start at whatever level you can afford/manage. A studio probably isn't the best environment to start. Give yourself a few years of learning everything you can on your own and by reading as much as you can. Message boards like this contain everything you'll learn at a recording program and (a lot) mo...

Two of my favourite albums for sure. If you get in touch with the guy, let us know here. I'd love a copy of that book and would happily pay for it.

Fairly often I'll run vocals through two compression channels - a low ratio and a higher one.

Just found this on another forum. I haven't read it yet, but this guy knows what he's talking about and probably has some good info.

i apologize in advance for my ignorance, but, in the most fundamental terms, what is "crush(ing) overheads during heavy limiting?" i'm relatively new to recording and am having a bit of hard time wrapping my head around compression and limiting.... but this thread blew my mind! yowzah!!!! A compres...

L&M has some Universal Audio and Focusrite stuff as well as some decent mics, but nothing too out of the ordinary. I'm sure you knew that though.

nobody is suggesting that because you don't smoke dope, you're not "cool" or "rock and roll"... But that suggestion does come up from time to time . Dude, those people who say shit like that are idiots. I don't like melons. I don't hate people that do. I would never party with someone who would be ...
