Ok i have a general understanding of dither and everything. From wha ti understand it adds a small amount of low level noise to mask low level noise if that makes sense. Ok i currently record 16 bit 44.1 using a yamaha aw4416 and have not used the dither or at least havent played with the settings ...

the points about using them for location work are all valid ones I suppose, I thought Soundscape was really onto something with the RED ( I dont do Mac so PT is out, they would be out anyhow, even if they were windows compatible) but Mackie bought them, stole the technology and shit on the company, ...

Why you guys even consider these stand alone HDRs when DAWs are where they are at right now as far as performance, price, and everything else I just dont get it and I never will as the DAW scene is just going to keep getting better

Why would anybody want a stand alone HDR when DAWs are at a point now that they are reliable, sound badass, have all the effect processing capabilities, you cant stick a UAD 1 in an HDR, screw a bunch of FTPing as well, I dont know of one that can track 24 at 24/ 96K HDRs are dead and stinking news ...

a friend of mine asked me this question and I dont have an answer for him, he is thinking DM24 for pre's, effects, routing, automation, with a multitrack tape machine, I've never heard of this being done but there is plenty I dont know
