How savvy are you at troubleshooting? From your description, it soulds like it's going to need some attention. If you're prepared and able to do some TLC, you might be able to bring it back into shape. How are your tech chops, and do you already own the tools it calls for? I am personally not very ...

I'm very happy with mine (it's a project 8, not a Rec 24, not sure what the difference is), but I managed to score mine for ?180 fully functional, so you may want to hold off and wait for a working one. Ahh, that is not much of a difference for a fully working one. I'll need to have a think about i...

Sountracs Topaz Rec 24 Question
Hey, So I have the opportunity to buy a non working one of these for ?100 locally, the guy that owns it seems like a genuine guy and he explained that it had been hardly used before it broke but one day there was smoke and a burning smell and it shut off. Since then it hasn't powered up. I need a co...

RCHP - Californication is mono, I think. esit: and of course by RCHP I mean RHCP  I didn't think it was, so I checked. At first I was going to say it sounds entirely mono to me except this organ/synth part has a melody/harmony hard panned (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhcwyUZdT60 - 1:41). B...

I think that guy must have just been a bit of an idiot. I'm 23 and cassette is as familiar to me as CD. I used to make mix tapes all the time. I still have a pretty big cassette collection, albiet one that hasn't been played in many years. I'm pretty sure anyone over the age of 16 will be pretty fa...

the rosin i have seems to be like a pretty hard little lump and i can't really tell if it's getting on the strings - i have been applying it for quite a while and seems to make little or no difference at all. do i need a different type? should it feel tacky to touch? or are they typically hard? Onc...

The Alphatrack seems much simpler and more useful. Only one fader... but, honestly, I'd rather have one motorized fader that will always be where it needs to be, than 8 sliders that you have to reset yourself every time you change banks. I'm not sure if I'm sold on the idea of using the little ribb...

If I was in the market for this sort of thing, I would want "faders" rather than "sliders". I also would think that anything without motorized faders would just further complicate workflow. Also, no thanks on the "ribbon controller" and the "midi crossfade slider"... Seems like kind of a half-assed...

Control Surfaces
Hey, I have a modest home studio set up which I track and mix stuff in a kind of one man band way. Everything is entirely ITB which is starting to annoy me, not from a quality point of view but for control type things. I was looking at getting a CME bitstream 3X or an alphatrack. Has anyone got any ...

There are a ton of options out there for clones of rats and mods that can get you the sound you are looking for. Check out the Build Your own Clone version and the boards there for mods. Also the most sought after clone is probably the Beavis Audio FKR but they are pretty rare, although I think pro...
