"Now I want to transfer that sound to a live rig."
Do you mean a live rig for 2-ch recording?

dfuruta, I'll try to state my observations here and not my opinions. Hope this helps. I have an older Shinybox 46 and a Vinjet, same mic really, both off the shelf. Never had to max out the Grace m101 for 'em, usually 1 or 2 clicks before max (at 5dB increments) so that's about 50-55 dB. Same deal w...

They can call the MD441 a hypercardioid all they want. To me it's a tight cardioid - just like a 57 but sounding different.

So, where does the R16 fit in here?
Are you content with its results and your workflow? Or would you prefer to replace it with more mic preamps?

If you get that Shinybox mic properly re-ribboned it will earn you a better parking space at your fancy studio, I can guarantee you that.

This has been working for me - Give my client a rosewood percussion stick and a regular drumstick and ask him to beat out a click track. If we need 1/8th notes ask him to finger tap on the back of a guitar. I'll record maybe 15 seconds of it and loop it out to 4 minutes or whatever. It's a pleasant ...

We went from Shure 87 to Electro-voice RE-10 and all is well. The sound manager from her other band came out and heard it and immediately picked up an RE-10. Plus with the proprietary windscreen it looks like a girl mic.
Hope this helps.

vvv,
don't know what you're looking for, but check out the Pioneer SG-540 on Ebay for dirt cheap. It's like this: set everything on flat. What comes out sounds better than what goes in. I'm not fucking with you here.

Consider a fretless guitar.
Heard a fretless banjo in concert last night. We were all knocked out.

I used to be amazed at how fast a tape op could do a critical splice, in the time it takes to roll a cigarette.

In the case of a 15x20 room 12' ceiling, should I roll up the 13x13 carpet to expose the concrete floor or use the carpet? It's for straight-ahead hard-bop jazz.

not a crystal mic, but this may be of interest- I borrowed an ancient DT4 American Microphone... a dynamic mic with an aluminum diaphragm. It went up to 5Khz then dropped to nothing after that, but the cool thing was it was self-compressing. The heavy diaphragm only vibrated so much, then there was ...
