Awhile ago I got a 60's Ampeg B15N although it needed a little work. I finally got around to having my go-to amp guy fix her up. I believe it will be ready in a week or so. I can't wait! I have never actually heard this amp, or a B15 in person before.

I have a Watkins Copicat (tube version) and I order new tape directly from them. I also have a tube Echoplex and I've ordered replacement tape for that as well. The tape needs to be lubricated tape, not just 1/4" tape.

There is just something about real tape delay...solid state or tube driven!

I've ordered from US Recording Media although now I go direct to ATR. If you already have the reels, ordering the "pancakes" of tape is awesome. Too bad you can't do that with 2" tape! :-)

I use ATR mainly. (love it!!) I also use RMG tape but only for home stereo stuff.

This is probably not the appropriate thread to argue cap lifespan. However, ten years is what the manufacture states. Yes, we all have equipment that works fine without newer caps. Would it sound better with new filter caps? Maybe. Some believe it is a little over hyped. I go by experience and taste...

FS: NOS Ampex 456 2" Tape 14" REELS -UNOPENED!

Hello,

I am selling 3 reels of new old stock unopened Ampex 456 2" tape. THESE ARE THE MONSTER 14" REELS!! I would prefer money order/cashiers check, but will except paypal too so long as buyer pays fees. Buyer also pays shipping costs.

Asking $85 per reel.

Thanks,
Tom

There's no doubt the overhauled amps sound way better. They have to because an amp is similar to a car, there are things that wear out over time and usage. The vintage amps that are in near perfect condition are because they were not played that much. (most likely) Which is in some ways bad for an a...

Okay, so after digging in a bit I realized my console/wiring was having an issue. Just some dirty connections were causing the problem. I did not heed my own PM schedule about cleaning. Oops. More videos to come and a PROPER promo video will be appearing in the near future featuring some very cool p...

Hi, I don't mean to be critical here or sound like an arse...I own and love vintage amps and just want to bring a few things up. I would point out that because it's been recovered and not the original speaker, this amp goes for quite a bit less. Also, if not the original transformers, that too makes...

Thanks. I'm using two mics indeed, one on each of the amps speakers. I panned each hard L/R. More for the sake of hearing the sennheiser 421 vs. Beyer M160. I believe the "panning" effect is due to possibly the different mic/preamp transient responses...The ribbon had more gain at certain points tha...

I added another short video here: http://youtu.be/9MpYljR7Xc8 This time around I opted to use my Fender Twin Reverb (early 70's Silverface which I converted to Blackface) and a 1994 Strat. (40th Anniv. Model) My signal chain consisted of a 421 into a UA6176 and a Beyer M160 into a Seventh Circle Aud...

Hi GJ,

It seems to work fine for me...maybe check your internet. Otherwise, you can search youtube for White Oak Pickups and you will find it.

Thanks for the interest!

Take care,
Tom

Some Tele Tracks...

Hi, Well, this is the most recent recording project I have been doing. Unfortunately, I'm doing it for free because it's for my side business making hand-made guitar and bass pickups. I have done several videos which will be posted here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jhr7Yd4LCc This video is chees...

1950's Patchbay desk from a school. I have new TT bays I'm retro fitting in the desk. It should be pretty sweet when done.
