A producer I recorded with in the past uses an SM87 on the snare and recommended it to me. Would be nice to get some second opinions on the mic in that application!

I recorded with Matt Ingram (her drummer) with one of my old bands at Urchin Studios in Limehouse, London. He engineers there and I think pre-production for Laura Marling's album took place there as well. Oh well, just some random info of no interest to anyone but myself probably

Yeah it's sad that bands don't seem to do live sessions for radio anymore, Peel or otherwise. Live sessions for video on AOL and the like are fine, but there isn't so much of an emphasis on the audio quality or performances, maybe because the bands are concious of the cameras.

GS is a valuable resource, but there does seem to be a clique of old guys on there who sneer at young 'uns "taking our jobs". If they were such pros, surely they would still be working and not spending so much time on a message board?

I always wear plugs, simple as. When I used to do gigs I didn't bother, but I noticed the quality of my performance suffered as the drums were so loud that I lost perspective of the bigger picture.

It performs its function, but the colour scheme isn't very "musical". Looks a bit like a template.

I don't know if this is a solution, but you could burn the CD to WAVs and import them into a simple program like Audition or Audacity and lower the volume of the whole album. It's something I do regularly before importing pesky "loudness war" albums into iTunes, when Sound Check just can't make the ...

Like has been said, it's best just to stay calm. I recorded a drum track the other day, struggled a bit but managed to nail it eventually, was completely happy and then I accidentally wiped the kick drum track. Logic started being an arse (as programs do) and wouldn't reimport it. I uttered a few fo...

I don't think it's a bad idea to have one, just as long as you don't place it prominently like in a classroom. It's more for the producer/engineer more than anything else, since they're running the show.
