Stay away from firewire...it's a dead end. Usb3 is faster, more stable and is not going extinct. Thunderbolt's future is also uncertain.... It's brilliant and I really like my thunderbolt drives and interface....but if I was buying today I'd make sure usb3 was an option. It would be nice if your int...

I'd look at the space as a whole, keeping in mind that acoustic treatment, like sound isolation methods, are most effective when viewed as a system. If your space is unconventional, you'll likely need some unconventional solutions....I'd look into fuzzmeasure by rogue amoeba and start by doing a ser...

I've got a Neumann shotgun and have used it both in studio and procuction-for-picture situations. Like any shotgun....it's got a focused pickup pattern and will give you a ton of detail, but it won't really help with quiet sources. I'd say a super powerful clean preamp would be much more helpful wit...

Well, sound isolation-ally speaking...... a floor/ceiling assembly is going to need the same kind of treatment as a well. However, in the real world it's extremely difficult to achieve anywhere near the same kind of acoustic isolation as in a wall assembly. This is doubly true when the noise source ...

The most beautiful development in the past few years is the huge improvement to ad/da. Cheap two channel bedroom interfaces start off in a better place than most pro interfaces of the earlier digital days. Which means there are much bigger fish to fry than your ad/da. Mic placement monitors and the ...

Typical Vented roof scenario shouldn't be much of a problem as far as sound transmission goes. Your room within a room and attic insulation should cover any real world sound transmission concerns. Taking the roof venting of the equation could pose problems.....unless that roof insulation system is r...

Shouldn't be a problem.

You could investigate going to a hot roof model. This is where the insulation envelope goes all the way to the roofline itself. The hot roof is a non vented design, but isn't accepted as "code" everywhere.

Your inner envelope (room/room) should be fine.

You'll get better results with light gauge steel studs, and just going with a separate internal wall and an external wall. Better isolation than a staggered stud on a common plate and better performance in the low end than wood period.

You won't need anything else. Going any farther will be a waste of money and effort. In order to justify more isolation, your slab would need to be floated on springs and isolated from the ground it sits on. Kick drums and cranked svt's are the problem. Just for reference, my personal studio space i...

What's your goal as far as isolation goes? A room/room scenario is pretty tough to beat. Unless you are going "in all the way" floating your concrete slab, you'll see very little benefit by continuing to add mass to the shell of a room within a room system. High 50's as far as stc goes is going to w...

Add another layer to the outside. It'll be fine, new energy models show huge benefits to an exterior layer of insulation as well.

Some sort of non compressing board based styrofoam. In case heating/cooling is on your radar.

Are the pots original? Looks like a resistor to me. They roll off treble in a very different way to my ears. Pot values, by themselves, can have a pretty drastic effect on the volume and high end of a pickup. I'd look there and at the wiring itself. Perhaps the resistor is wired up, mistakenly, in a...

No silencer boxes. I did use 4" flexible insulated ducting and forced as many twists and turns as practically possible into each run. The flexible ducting does limit the in/out wall vents that make off the shelf connections to the ducting. For this project we used adjustable 4" round mini diffusers ...

I didn't have the space, in a most recent build, to do anything other than undulate insulated ducting lines for both supplies and returns. Granted I was able to place quite a few undulations in those lines...but the end performance has been fantastic. Both from an isolation and an airflow standpoint...
