Re: Mic pads — they all work the same, right?

1. Hamptone's fabulous MP500A has pads at the input and output, so use those in any way you see fit. Scott Hampton designs some of the best pro audio gear in the world, but few of you have actually bought and used it. I have a lot of his gear, and can tell you it gets used ALWAYS when I am tracking....

Re: anyone working at 96k?

My first response was, "WTF? What year is it on this forum?" But then I thought I should be a bit nicer. I work at 96 kHz 24 bit if given free rein, and it always seems fine, so I keep doing it. In spectral views I see lots of action up there above 20 kHz, so in the name of overkill I just do it thi...

Re: Would love to see a melvins article.

I'm super sorry. I wanted it in print, and we had no room and only 1 crummy photo so it went online. I was bummed. Welcome to running a magazine.

Re: Share any customized shortcuts / workflows for Pro Tools (or other DAWs)

Does this count? I map processing plug-in tools in iZotope RX (standalone app) to Function keys on my Macs. It speeds me up A LOT! I never use the RX plug-ins within Pro Tools anymore except to get audio in and out.

Re: RIP Chris Garges @cgarges

Oh man, first we lose Rob Christensen this year – see the upcoming End Rant I wrote about him and our Tape Op journey. Now Chris. I am so glad we did those few TapeOpCons despite the (behind the scenes) bad shit it left in my life. Meeting people like Chris, Mark Rubel, Tony, and so many others was ...

Glyn is not a scientist. He's an artist. of all the interviews I've done that was one of the coolest. He doesn't suffer fools, and I think I riled him up a bit...

Re: Steve Fisk and "appropriate reverb"

I def do not want my mastering person changing or commenting on my reverb choices! Wow. I heard about a guy adding phase destructive stereo width to mixes a while back. Wow. Send it back for a remix or master it. WTF?

Source for older Sennheiser mic repairs?

I have a 90's era MD421 where the head basket broke. Sent to Sennheiser a few years back and they won't touch it. Anyone have a person who works on these? A couple of peas have similar issues with old 409's and white 421's. Annoying!

All of this is about getting the clients to understand how to best interface with me so I can focus on mixing. Here's the whole thing about my $250 mixes: $250 Mixing Info for Larry Crane 2021 If you haven’t worked with me, I’d love to show you what I can bring to your tracks. If you have used my mi...

Re: RANT: "in your spare time.."

None of us have spare time. My "by the way" tasks usually cost $25+ per. Below if from my $250 per song mix deals: Are you saying your rate for mixing a song is $250? More than one email per mix revision is $50. This is if the client emails you or if you have to email them twice? Yes, $250 is the b...
