Re: You know you're a TapeOpper if...

...you can explain, in detail, why you like every song in your entire record collection. ...you have a really nice tape machine/pro tools/whatever rig, but still hang onto that Realistic "1/4 4-track with the semi-functioning (warble, warble, warble) motor your dad bought in '72 because "it might co...

Re: Tapeop knowledge in action!

The drums kind of vanish in the verse. I would bring down that acoustic. The doubled vocals is a neat trick, but I think I would employ the technique in the chorus or verse instead of both. I know it's often hard to be objective when mixing your own music. I often wish I could talk someone else into...

Re: Books? What are you reading?

I dig Cusack. It seems like a lot of people give him flack for "always playing the same role," but if you look at his entire body of work he's done some really interesting films. Some of my favorites are: The Grifters, High Fidelity, and Max. Cusack, in Max, plays a (Jewish) art dealer trying to get...

Re: Books? What are you reading?

I'm knee deep in Hunter S. Thompsons: Fear and Loathing in America. This book requires true grit, and I am chock full of that man! And before that I read Nick Hornsby's(?) High Fidelity (good f'n book!). Yes, Yes... High Fidelity is a very enjoyable read. Incidentally, the location of the store in ...

pricing info? + guitar amp suggestions

I've scoured the internest in search of pricing info on a Marshall VS100H and its matching 4x12 cabinet and haven't had much luck at all. Does anyone have links to sites where I may be able to find reliable info on this? I'm looking to sell the (lousy sounding) Marshall and replace it with a (good s...

Re: Minorities in Recording...

do you think minorities have had to back-door their way into the industry through music that was, at the time, counter-culture or on the fringes, until big white studios and labels commercialized it? Everyone I know, regardless of race, gender, or style of music, has had to "back-door their way int...

Re: Putting together a dedicated PC for protools Le

Be sure to check Digidesign's website for compatability issues. Some friends of mine put together a PTLE-dedicated PC, went with a motherboard that wasn't supported in spite of my urgings not to do so, and they ended up with two or three months of downtime because of it. In terms of hard drive space...

Re: Why do you like protools so much?

it was more that the realization of perfecting the hell out of something was killing the life out of the session, and all because of non-destructive editing. it had nothing to do with Pro-Tools, because any software platform can do that, but it was just the cliche of it. It simply was not nessasry ...

I would have to agree with that opinion...and everyone is entitled to my opinion. :P

I escaped to Chicago a few years ago.
