Re: Andy Martin, Knopfler, Buckingham..who are some awesome fingerstyle players?
Richard Thompson has a beautiful approach to fingerstyle playing - really delicate and lyrical. And I like John Fahey for the opposite reasons - he seemed to get some grit and twang in his playing.

This is fun to read.
When I was a kid, I was so taken by Ben E. King's Stand By Me. It sounded like the perfect expression of emotion. I'm still chasing that.

For sure. The Grandmother is a wicked fun synth, by the way. Not sure if you’re looking for a poly, but for a really great mono, it’s excellent. 100% wet spring reverb sequences on that thing are my jam and bread.Nick Sevilla wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 8:46 pmYeap, she is the real deal when it comes to synth land.

Re: limiting busses in rock music - digital
I have a template in Reaper I use often, with four busses (Vocals, Drums & Bass, Guitars, Keys & FX) feeding the master buss. No brickwall limiting, but I do like compression on the busses more often than not, though typically in the 1-2 dB range. My four instrument busses then go out as pairs to a ...

Re: How loud do you listen?
I use a dB meter app on my phone and usually monitor around 65-70 dB's. I don't have a great room and only monitor through some smaller Adams, so I find the more I excite the room with volume, the more out of balance everything gets. I end up referencing a lot through some open-back Beyer headphones...

Re: Recording The Beatles book - fyi
Holy cow. Got it when it was first issued, and mine’s a little worse for the wear. I wouldn’t sell it, and would love to see it reissued so more people could get a copy of it. Never fails to inspire.

Great tune. Don’t know which drum machine that is, but it does sound pretty saturated. I like it.

Re: Best vocal mic under 2K?
I'm hungry for a pair of M70 caps for my Gefell bodies. I have a KM84 but at this point getting a second one isn't going to happen (at the current prices). I've read that the M70 capsules are *very* close to the KM84 vibe. Grabbing a pair seems like the right move. Yeah, not sure how they compare t...

Re: Best vocal mic under 2K?
Microtech Gefell UM70 (multi-pattern M7) or M71 (cardioid-only M7) on either the 691 or 692 preamp body. I own both capsules and both preamp bodies. They are incredible mics for a wide range of instruments, but I feel like they really are wonderful as vocal mics. Definitely. I’ve got a M71 with a 6...

FT: AEA R88 MK1; looking for LDC
I really love the AEA, but most of what I’m doing from home is close-mic’ed. Interested in swapping it for a LDC - a Gefell UMT71 would be cool, but I’m open to offers.
