anyone working at 96k?
I have recently done some upgrades to my recording rig so that I can start working at higher sample rates (been limited to 48k until now). I also watched this video today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN1pSy1sWN4 which now has me thinking about the possible benefits of even upsampling lower res pr...

Re: let's talk monitoring / accurate sound reproduction for mixing
i could hear the higher frequencies when played back on friends speakers over my iphone! Of course, the iphone is a very trebly device--it's going to accentuate high-end stuff. Nonetheless.....it'd probably be worthwhile to figure out what frequencies exactly you're losing--is it everything over fr...

Re: let's talk monitoring / accurate sound reproduction for mixing
I think what others say about testing both your outputs from your console AND the inputs of your ears are good ideas. Not to throw a HUGE WRENCH into this, but have you also considered a DSP solution. There are a lot of them out there that seem to work really well. My new monitors are using a Dayto...

Re: let's talk monitoring / accurate sound reproduction for mixing
Hmm...9 -10 years since setting up the studio acoustics...hopefully the treble deficit has nothing to do with your 'personal monitors' and the passage of time resulting in attenuated higher frequencies...I am in my late sixties and I can't hear above 12 kHz now...more like 10 khz in practical liste...

Re: let's talk monitoring / accurate sound reproduction for mixing
thanks for the responses so far but as mentioned - i spent a bunch of time and money setting up the space well 9 years ago - hired acoustic consultants and built out all the treatments - so i understand the importance of all of that but at this point I am more convinced that: A) something is driftin...

separate - the ghost has a toggle for an alternate output which is what the yamahas are connected toNick Sevilla wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 12:39 amDo you mean from separate outputs, or the same one? Your DAW should have adecent frequency analyzer plug in (FFT) to look at what is happening with your board.they are both fed off the board

let's talk monitoring / accurate sound reproduction for mixing
I'm on a bit of a hunt for how to improve my mixes with regards to frequency balances and am starting to wonder if the pro ac studio 100's (which I have so enjoyed working on and with for the last 10 years or so) are a little too soft in the upper frequencies so I tend to push a bit too much top end...

Re: "On kicks with different mics like ya do"
i bought a rca 77d this year and I've been trying to use it EVERYWHERE lately and it rarely disappoints. (also sounds amazingly BIG and quiet through the AEA trp pre amp too.) killer drum OH, upright bass, acoustic guitars, banjo, mando, amps ... wow. Also pulled my ATM 25 off bottom of leslie and p...

Re: Deluxe Yankee Hotel- a production master class
I'd heard some of these alternate versions before but I'm also enjoying going back and hearing how the songs morphed and of course we know the album versions so they seem "best" or "correct" but in general the early versions are kind of less nuanced/subtle and a little more plain in some ways. It's ...

Re: Hot tips for recording a mandolin?
My first thought is to use an sdc and a ribbon (Lauten la120 and Breyer m160) so that I can do some blending in the mixes. My room is untreated, but I have a vocal reflection filter that should help to get a more focused sound. Would putting blankets up behind him be overkill? The mando player is g...

Re: I don't need another ribbon...or do I?
I'm a sucker for ribbons and own a growing pile of em... Love them on drums and spiky sounds for mellowing harshness and rounding out... Digital recording is amazing but very pristine so I find using more ribbons and dynamics can really help soften the texture of a lot of sources and help create con...
