I record everything I do on a almost 2 year Powerbook, using an mBox and ProTools.
Up until now, I have been recording directly onto an ACOM 120 GB external HD (firewire) but lately I have notice that the HD creates some super high-end squeal that you can detect in just about every vocal track I record and it's annoying as all hell.
So, I'm out to purchase a new, inexpensive firewire drive. Anyone have any advice/tips on which ones are the best and why?
Thanks in advance.

Re: need advice on External Hard Drive purchase
Kevin, I have been using LaCie (www.lacie.com) because of the triple interface (firewire 800/400/usb) They are stackable and you can rack mount them. I just bought 2 (160 gig). You can get the d2 160 for about $200. I have heard a lot of good things about the Quantegy's also. You can check them out here http://www.usrecordingmedia.com/firaudprod.html
Hope this helps
