absolutely -- i could've read his stories all day long. the elvis tv show story that kicked if off had me hooked straight away.

every day that tapeop arrives is a happy day.

The tom waits part was kind of sad. Not something I'm used seeing in tapeop.

people do grow apart sometimes.

Maybe it's a little sad that Bones wasn't interested in changing direction at all. I do think that was an important shift in Waits' output, going from his 70's thing to Swordfishtrombones was a big step.

Good interview, anyway. I didn't know Bones was involved in all that other music, which is interesting to hear about.

Indeed. No Turtles stories, though.

Cranked Happy Together on the highway the other day. Huge.

My friend Mike Shelley interviewed him on WFMU:

There WERE Turtles stories and more. Bones was gracious enough to talk to me for two solid hours. The first transcript was 7000 words. I cut it down myself to about 4000 and then Larry squeezed it some more.

Some real gems ended up on the cutting room floor. Like, he even talked about Elvis in Vegas and the drug use...

Maybe I'll see if Tape-Op can add the full-length version to their on-line archives at some point.

Glad you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it...

ps: You might like some of the blog stories. I linked them below. Drew-Who blog has a new post about Joey Ramone.

I second that, Drew.

Thanks again for a nice piece.

Cheers,
