Seconded. I love hearing anyone talk matter-of-factly about minimal-mic techniques, tape, and not using pro tools to cut and paste what are meant to sound like performances. Great article! I'll be checking out some of his records.

I like the idea of instruments bleeding into one another, as indicated in this review. Of course, I would also argue that there are many ways to get a soulful sound. As Bosco himself would likely readily admit: having soulful players really supersedes any mic technique. At any rate, this month was my first with the mag and I am truly diggin it! Great, great stuff all around.

What issue is this in? I don't think I have it. Who/What is on the cover?

I really like the first Sharon Jones record better than the second. And almost anything coming from Daptone is pretty cool.

Says Bill Bottrell, Gabriel Roth..

Has a nice bit of artwork on the cover. Looks like an urban setting...somebody playing guitar in one apartment, and another sleeping
right below.

Yes, newest issue -- I got it yesterday. For those of you who know his work: Any recommendations for which records to check out first? So much in that interview that I agree with... Especially the bit about "perfectly balanced" mixes often being less interesting to hear than "flawed" ones.

I second that grilla. Even more since you turned me on to Daptone and Sharon Jones.
