Post by vibrationlander » Wed Dec 14, 2005 10:28 am

here's news release from paul's myspace page. he wants YOU to remix his tracks.

this has probably already been posted elsewhere on this TOMB, but i could find no indication in a routine search. anyway, enjoy . . .

Submit your remix!

Using a special Create Chaos mixing tool (courtesy of those nice folk at U-myx), you can create your own brand new Paul McCartney track.

This unique opportunity allows you to mix and develop a new track using original parts from the new album, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard. Once you are happy with your track, simply upload it to the same tool.

If your mix is the one of the best, it will be made available for download on the official site (www.paulmccartney.com), AND, you'll be sent an autographed presentation disc!

So, what do you need to do? It's simple:

- Download the Create Chaos tool for PC at http://www.paulmccartney.com/createchaos/remix.zip
or
- Download Create Chaos for Mac at
http://www.paulmccartney.com/createchaos/remix.tgz

- Follow the instructions on your desktop

- Upload your mix, complete with you contact details to the same tool at
http://www.paulmccartney.com/createchaos/submit.htm

- For more information, check out the U-myx Web site.

Happy mixing and good luck!

You can't even drag the tracks around. While it's a nice idea, it's sure limited as to what you can do.

Yeah, I found that too. I'd like guitars to come in after 4 bars instead of 8, but I can't do it.

Weak sauce. I want individual .wav files to tool around with. To think I'm going to be receiving Paul McCartney updates for the rest of my days because of this.....

Can't you guys manually re-record each track as wav's and then do whatever you want to em? Thats what I'd do... personally.

I think the problem is that you need to submit it in their format (which I suspect is just metadata about the mix).

I had fun tonight doing a real remix for a friend....

Sorry Sir Paul...it's no fun if you tell me how to remix it.

Who remembers David Bowie's overhyped "mashup" initiative about 18 months ago? We, the rock fans of the world, were supposed to download a free version of Acid and compete with one another to make the most snappy remix of a new Bowie tune. I can just hear the marketing meeting: "Hey, I hear the kids like to record their own stuff!" "Far out, dude! Let's do something INTERACTIVE where they get to pretend they're recording the Beatles or David Bowie!" "But what about the copyright issue?" "Well, we'll just make it SEEM like they're doing something. This will also be a good way to collect email addresses for our future promos!" "Yeah dude, something fun for the kids!"

Yes and this is the problem. I'm not giving up the copyright on my mix of THEIR material. They need to pay me to get my best work, or they'll only get my best monitor mix! lol

I concede that point wholeheartedly. Chances are he'd have me working in PT though.

Deerhoof did this recently, but posted 4 individual mp3 tracks that you could remix, at will. They have posted the submissions on the same site too - pretty cool of them, I thought.

I have been talking about this kind of stuff for years, "give a person a shot at it" sorta thing. Legalities aside... it would be cool for a well-known indie band (like if Fugazi were still around) to do something with posting wav files of raw tracks for someone to mix... and the winner actually mixes the whole record (or at least gets the one tune on the final record).

Garbage (I don't remember which album) had a multi-media "mix it yourself" thingie but it really kinda sucked. All it was is a mixer with volume knobs and a chorus loop of one a song or two. You'd think The Poster Children would've jumped on something like this.

I'll have to check out the Deerhoof thing when I have more than a few minutes.
