Swapping 1 STRAT pickup for a humbucker. Why?

Post by jcooke » Fri May 26, 2006 1:44 pm

I've seen quite a few people swap out ONE of the stock strat pickups with a humbucker. Does this eliminate the majority of the hum or will you still be subject to some?

If you use the humbucker pickup, it will eliminate the 60 cycle hum. Switch to the single coils and it's back. They do it for the sound, usually somebody with a strat who wants a heavier sound.

If it's a stacked single coil (or noiseless single coil) then you keep the strat voicing and loose the typical hum. But yeah, just when that pickup is engaged.
