Go rent the movie Gig and see if you can see what this guy plays through...Great movie by the way for any musician to watch. There's a few recording scenes in there too but I can't remember what was being used.

Other possibilities:

* If you have a closed back cab, especially a 2x12 Bassman, that could help. Even though the Victoria is an awesome amp, it may not be right for this one.

* What gauge strings are you using? If you're using 10s or lighter, try at least 11s, maybe even 12s. Detune a half or whole step too.

Do you have any clips you can post?

Isn't a vox teardrop/phantom guitar just alnico strat style pickups in a different shaped body?

..."Dig" is a good place to start - rent it because that documentary followed them around the time Give it Back was recorded. There are a few scenes of them in the studio recording material for it...
