Was rocking that on the ipod earlier today while going for a run.
I got to see Self perform live right after that album dropped - fucking awesome show, with a half dozen grown men playing toy instruments on stage.

the incredible SPACE PHONE

Post by brian beattie » Tue Jul 04, 2006 11:22 pm

There is a toy called "the space phone" which is two plastic megaphone thingys with a slender longy metal slinky stretched between them. when you speak into one, your voice rolls out both sides with a natural slinky spring reverb, with definite regenerating echo patterns as well. Here's the "toy raygun" part... When you boink the slinky while it's stretched with your fingernail, it goes 'eeeEeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW!!!!" and "BWABWABWAbwabwabwabwabwawawawawa....." and other space age laser type sounds. And it's all ACOUSTICALLY GENERATED, WITH BADASS ECHOING REVERB!!! for, like 8-13 dollars!! avaliable at yer coolest local toy store! even if it's not cool!!
PLUS, It makes an EXCELLENT "effects" track to blend with the main vocal mic. You just sing near one of the megaphone thingies and put a mic on the other megahone. thingie. move or delay it a bit more to echo even more behind the main track.
I'm sure there's a thread about these "space phone" thingies here somewhere??
