Quad is essentially surround, but only L/R Front, L/R Read. No Center, no Sub.
What is is specifically you're thinking about doing?
I used to listen to Dark Side of the Moon on an 8-track cartridge quad system as a kid. Both on speakers (one in each corner of the room) or on special quad headphones, with a front and rear driver literally in each earcup. Fun. (I think there was a copy of Ummagumma kicking around, too...)

One person's discography of quadraphonic releases is here.
On eBay alone right now there are about 100 hits for the search "quadraphonic":
Check it!
Wikipedia has a nice overview of the format(s) here.
For starters. Gotta love Google.

WOW! I wonder if they're from original vinyl or from original masters.Cyan421 wrote:there are pro tools files of dark side in quad running around out there. There's about a million ways you could make it work and still sound right.
It also seems to be available in DVD-Audio. Alan Parsons Quad mix! Sweet. Gotta love the innernet.
Looking at the wiki page, it'd be sweet to get something in that Q4 format and play it back on the old 4-track.

Often judged by audiophiles to be the best of the old Quad formats, this system was based on a reel to reel type 1/4" tape format, fully discrete and with full bandwidth (Unlike the Q8 Cartridge system, which had limited dynamic range). This format was only available in the USA. Playback machines were either dedicated quad machines, or 4-track open reel systems usually running at a speed of 7.5 IPS (double the speed of the 8-Track systems), giving even better sound quality.
