A cheap bass that stayed in tune for 4+ years

Post by ;ivlunsdystf » Fri Oct 13, 2006 10:15 pm

That's right, I just got out a bass that's been inside the case since fall of 2002. When I got it out of the case tonight every string was in perfect tune.

I am impressed.

It's one of those cheapo Ibanez basses with 5 strings and active pickups and a knob instead of a pickup chooser switch.

Yeah.

My big question is: Was it in tune when I put it away four years ago?

Well, if it wasn't in tune when you put it in the case 4 years ago, and is in tune now, I think you have quite a " magic self tuning bass..!"(lol). I'll take it... :D

I should now confess that the reason I suddently got out the old five-string bass was to use it on my contribution to the TOMB Beach Boys compilation.

This probably deserves its own thread, but I'm going on record that 5 string basses are cool (I'd say again, but not sure if they ever have been). It's one of those things that's been so not right for so long that it's now righter.

I've just heard so (SO) many lame motherfuckers say like "dude a bass says Fender" or "a bass has 4 strings" or ripoff commentary like that it's started to feel oppressive and weak. So I bought a 5! lol.

Yeah, the only thing cooler is a 7-string shredder guitar with a handle cut into the top of the body ...

agreed on the 5-string bass topic ...

Dumbass, there's no such thing as a "magic self tuning bass".

Obviously it's the case that magically tuned the bass. Does it happen to pyramid-shaped? Maybe it's built out of wood left over from the True Cross?

I wish I could report that it is one of those coffin-shaped cases like those shown in the Sam Ash catalog, but alas.

Anyway, yeah, it's a badass case. If I could only fit the entire Clavinet in there and then I wouldn't need to bother with tuning that.

Man, I know a few singers I'd like to lock in that case for a few years...

I have a cheap fretless Yamaha RBX270 that's always in tune when I go to use it once in a blue moon. I don't understand how that is, but it's always in tune. $180; go figure.

Hey, the " magic self tuning bass" line makes more sense than the" pyramid-shaped case..!..

Those are designed for BC Rich Guitars only, don't let Kerry King catch you putting otherwise in one or he will light your face on fire.
