Installing EQ III just killed my whole rig...!

Post by mertmo » Sun Jan 28, 2007 6:30 pm

I have an 001, running 6.1 on a PC.
I installed EQ III today, and now my PT software won't open. I've done a system restore, and tried reinstalling the software components. No luck.
So now my whole rig is down. YIKES! Here's the error windows I get. 1st:

"ProToolsLE.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point _DsiGetCardTypeFromDSP@8 could not be
located in the dynamic link library DSI.dll."

2nd:

"ERROR STARTING PROGRAM

A required DLL file, DAE.dll, was not found."

anyone seen this before?

Ugh. I hate it when that happens. One problem is that the EQIII is only compatible with PT 6.7 or higher. I tried it on 6.4.1 just to see if it would work, and it screwed my system up too, though not as badly as it did yours.

I ended up doing a complete re-install.... which isn't to say that's the only way to get your system running again, but I tried trashing preferences and databases, and it didn't help, and I like to clean the slates once in a while anyway, so that's what I did. Needless to say, I'm much more apt to read the compatibility documents than I used to be.

you can see if you have a Windows restore point from before teh EQ3 install and maybe you can roll back to that?

digitaldrummer -

Already tried that, but it didn't fix the problem. I think I am destined to
rebuild my system drive. "Ugh" is right...

I think this happened to my friend's systems too (I'm not really sure what he did...) and I remember doing a "search & destroy" mission in the registry. Search for everything Digidesign and delete it. then also make sure you remove the existing folders that PTLE installs. I can't remember if PTLE 6.4 puts anything in the \Windows\System32 folder but you might search for those dll's that are missing and if you do find them, delete them (they would most likely be version 7.x). then reinstall PTLE 6.x again.

Try searching for a DLL called DSPManager.dll -- I think it's installed next to the Pro Tools exe. Check the version #. If it doesn't match your 6.1 version, delete it, and then re-run the Pro Tools installer.

Spent today rebuilding my system drive from scratch, reinstalling ProTools and all the plugins. I am already operational. Fairly painless and it really was
time for it anyway, my rig was getting glitchy in other ways.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

I just looked it up and I was the one who suggested you try those plugs out in another thread. I used them with 6.4 with no problems and figured LE was LE, I guess not... Sorry for the inconvenience..

Don't sweat it, I really am better off. My system is super clean and definitely
leaner than it was before. Plus I had the day off... :^:
