Substitutes for ATM25s on toms?
Alright. This is my first post.
I've had a lot of success with ATM25s on toms. Unfortunately, I've moved from my old house (we only had enough ATMs for a full kit between the three of us), they've been discontinued, and I wanted to consider other options under $200. Suggestions have been SM57s, e604s, e602s, e902s, e904s, and TSM411s.
I only have a floor tom and a rack tom, but I use them a lot and like a full, bassy sound from them. I use my one ATM25 for my kick, so I could do with just a selection of 2 of these, but might spring for 3 to have something to pair with an SM57 on my snare.
If anyone familiar with the character of the ATM25s has any ideas or if anyone wants to sell any, please let me know.
Thanks!

I've been using e604's for several years, been flamed occasionally for them being "fine for live sound, but I'd never use them for recording". All I can say is I rarely have to EQ tom tracks, and I get tons of compliments from drummers and producers on my drum sounds. Granted, a good part of that is my room, but the mics matter too.

I have the 504's (the old version of the 604's) They don't sound much different than the 421's as long as you put them on a stand instead of the clip. I've used them in the studio for 10 years, if you can't get a great tom sound out of them, it isn't the mic.
From what I understand, the atm25's are a lot like 421's. If that's true, the 604's will do the trick for you.

I used some 421's on toms for a while and liked them, but on a friend's recommendation I tried using my Oktava MK012's and was very stoked about the results. They're warm and round and actually had BETTER rejection than the 421's (at least to my ears). I can't imagine using anything else unless I needed really slappy, aggressive tom sounds. Try em.
Oh yeah, and they're totally kickass on a bunch of other stuff as well, so that's an added bonus.

Lots of choices under $200: Audix D2, Audix D4, EV 408 or 468, Shure Beta98 ...Vince Clortho wrote:I've had a lot of success with ATM25s on toms. I couldn't believe how much my ears were telling me these sound just like 57s, until I switched one out and got the exact same tone and level.

I have been using them at a record store for their in store PA, and have swapped them for 57s to show touring soundguys, all with eyebrow raising results.
