I have a problem while using Sony Acid Music Studio

Post by Merks » Thu May 17, 2007 1:15 pm

Ok I'm using Sony Acid Music Studio 6.0

I also have Magicsofts Sound Recorder (for when I record stuff off internet radios and such)
Now the Magicsofts thing has 4 options to record from:

-Line In
-Microphone
-CD Audio
-Wav Out Mix

by picking one of these in this program, it switches the recording device for the whole computer.

Now here are my 2 situations:

1.)

I pick "Microphone" mode in this magicsofts program.
I now go into Sony Acid Music Studio.
I can record everything, and I can record multiple tracks at once, like record a new track, when playing the others in the background. The quality is average.

2.)

I pick "Wav Out Mix" mode in the magicsofts program.
I now go into Sony Acid Music Studio.
I can record one track, and when I record another, since i'm in wav out mode, it will play this track on the sound card when im recording the new one, so the levels are all doubled and it sounds terrible. However, the one track that I did record is almost studio quality.

so the cliff notes:

- if I use microphone mode in this program, itll sound average, but I can use multiple tracks
- if I use wav out mode in this program, the quality sounds amazing.

Ok so here is my question,

how do I record in Line In mode, where I can have the other tracks playing in the background, where it wont be re-recording these as I'm recording the new one.

And I know I can just hit the mute button, but I want to mix these tracks while listening to the others.

I have windows xp, and a hp zv5000 notebook computer.

My mic and my keyboard are plugged into the same preamp, which goes into my laptop in a 1/8" jack in the mic port

hopefully this is enough info

No totally following the chain here, but check your preferences and options in the Sony program, and make sure your signal routing is good. maybe you got a box checked that sends the signal around in circles...

what are the chances that you are in/near Atlanta? I use the Sony platforms exclusively.

I'm not groking your setup but thought that perhaps the phase cancellation trick discussed in a recent thread might work for you to cut out the other tracks if you can't get your routing or what have you figured out:

Nope. The cats over at SonyMediaSoftware forums are real nice, and there's even a few employees that answer questions, and know how to ask the questions which reveal what you are doing right/wrong.

join up and ask.
