I was just reading about this thing. No reviews yet. I'm curious if an Empirical Labs pre will be as big of a hit as their Distressor.

bump...

anybody use this yet?

I'm considering buying one as an upgrade to my FMR RNP/RNC.

It seems like most of the newest gear is a little slow to proliferate, get reviewed etc.

Both this unit and the new FMR compressor are available at Mercenary, but there are no serious reviews or testimonies out there.

Won't Mercenary let you return it if you don't like it? Maybe someone here should be the first to give it a whirl.

I think I might dive in and give it a whirl.

I've been on the fence between this or the SSL Mynx tracking pack special. I have until Friday to decide.

I'm mostly recording voice, sound fx, and guitar.

I'll post a review if I get it.

Best money i've spent yet. I love this box. I can't stop gushing about it. Really try to hear one if you get a chance.

I think we can sort of imagine the compression on it, but how would you describe the preamp (what other brand comes to mind)? Clean and Grace/Sytekish? Warm and Neve/Great River ish? Punchy and API ish?

Honestly I've never heard anything like it. I've never plugged into an API but from what folks describe, that would be my guess. I can tell you it sounds nothing like my Vintech 273 and nothing like any Avalon I've ever plugged into. It's way cooler for me. Bypassing the compsat section is totally clean, punchy, and gives me the WHOLE tone of whatever I plug into it. The very best my bass has ever sounded. Engaging the compsat warms things up considerably. You can adjust how much of that you want. You can then compress that signal as little or hard as you want and then blend that with the original signal! It's like a chameleon box. Just when I get a grip on it another sound appears. I own two and I'm being buried with both!
I know that doesn't really answer your question but hey, I'm tryin'.
