small mixer for electronics?

Post by lukievan » Wed Aug 26, 2009 7:16 pm

I'm looking for a small mixer so I can combine multiple electronic sources in a live band context. Kaossillator, sampler, noisebox, etc. Maybe 2 stereo/2 mono inputs. I'd like to be able to send those sources to a loop sampler and/or some fx pedals. So maybe I'll need a couple sends. EQ on each channel would be good too. Anybody use anything for this kind of situation that they really love? My setup is evolving and somewhat flexible, so if I find a great mixer, I may build my setup around it. Thanks!

can't really beat a small mackie, 1202 or 1402 for live setups like that...

I would also take a look at the Soundcraft Spirit mixers. They sound a little eh, ahem, warmer, than the mackies. though the mackies have the benefit of a built in power supply wheras the little spirit mixers all seem to have line lump style supplies, which can be a hassle when gigging.
If you are using all line sources, seriously check out the DJ mixers out there. Some of them have pretty cool effects built in as well as sends. Vestax comes to mind. Or if you are into a more lofi sound see if you can find one of those realistic/tandy mixers with the two big VU meters. They get a real nice overdirve sound when you hit them hard.
