Studer A820 Winding Problem

Post by Heath » Tue Jan 19, 2010 8:35 am

Hi all,

I have recently started having a problem with one of my Studer A820's in both wind modes (rewind and forward). The machine starts winding, but after about 3 seconds stops, the transport disengages, and the error "Incorrect Radius Measurement" is shown on the display. At this point, I can re-engage the wind, but it just keeps happening over and over again.

Any ideas as to what the source of this error could be?

Thanks in advance,

Heath

Sounds like a sensor issue on one of your tension arms. It may or may not be a sensor, but those arms flex when you wind through the tape. Tension varies depending on which side (supply or take up reel) has the tape.

It could also be that the machine is somehow thinking you have a larger reel 14" instead of the standard 10.5" reel. I never tried running a 10.5" reel along with a 14" reel, but I do know that the Otari MX5050 decks have a switch for different reel sizes that needs to be selected to make sure the tension is correct.

Likely, it's a cheap fix for you though.

btw, sounds like you need this:

Dont pay for a manual if you need one...they are free here at Studers FTP site .

What is this case like? I've been thinking about getting one.
