what, would you rather max out your credit cards and file for bankruptcy/foreclose because you can't charge enough to pay for it in this economy? Sure everyone makes their own financial decisions but buying used usually works to keep you spending only the actual money you have.tdbajus wrote:Way to stimulate the economy, guys/girls.

If you are seriously considering getting into a 'high end' DI box, then most certainly get a used Avalon U5. New they run 500+ but can be had on ebay for as low as $375 in good if not great condition. Seems people are always selling those things to 'make rent' or because of a change in life priorities (guy wants to settle down and is eyeballing a ring for his girlfriend).
Besides the tone shaping and some other little nifty features, I can't understand exactly what makes the U5 a 'cadillac' DI. We own two and actually have never A/B against a passive DI or even a Countryman. Seems there are an awful lot of electronics crammed in that thing just to get an impedance match for your signal.
And heck, for the price I can't understand why they didn't put a power switch on the darn thing!

yeah, after reading a lot of raves on this board about them, and recently a post from "The Bunker" saying they use the thing for 90% of the bass sound... got me more interested.. In my world, the bass DI is only there for reamping later, cause just the DI alone just doesn't sound good/right.. even blended...MisterMark wrote:If you are seriously considering getting into a 'high end' DI box, then most certainly get a used Avalon U5. For three years, I'd occasionally visit drumsound's studio and see the same broken 57 sitting atop his Hammond.drumsound wrote:*bows*T-rex wrote:Yep, but its a good schtick!drumsound wrote:At this point it's become my schtick (though I don't even own a working 57)T-rex wrote:Although I like the 57, Drumsound I totally respect your ongoing/never ending hatred of it and the fact that you take a shot at it every time it's mentioned!drumsound wrote:These should be in the things you should never buy thread.werd clock wrote:Sm 57/58.
