advice on a modest FW interface

Post by Limonius » Wed Jan 11, 2012 10:07 pm

I just bought a new iMac and discovered that my horribly outdated Tascam is incompatible. I'm on a budget so I'm looking at boxes under 300, leaning towards the TC Electronic Impact Twin but I'd love to hear about other options. Aside from reliability and minimum 4 ins, small footprint is a plus.

i have gotten many years of faithful service out of my tc konnekt 24d; i assume the impact twin would be about the same. it looks like the same general deal but with a new case and some new features on the inside.

[i, too, have an old tascam interface that won't even power up with any recently made OS. tascam really should get smart and start supporting old stuff, then i might be inclined to buy more tascam stuff that they are making now. since i see that they elect to "kill" old products by cutting off support, I really don't care to become a tascam product owner again! sheeeeesh]

although: in the prosumer/project studio realm, i am dazzled by the look of the new mackie onyx 820i. these products aren't top level audio, but for getting things done around the house, they look like they'd perform great.

EDIT it looks like this thing only has 2 outputs to the DAW. never mind

Used MOTU 896HD or 828mk2. Black Lion mod. My 828mk2 works really well with my new MacBook Pro.

I'm really happy with my Presonus Firestudio Mobile.

I have a Focusrite pro 24 dsp, that I'm pleased with. It has 2 pre's and 2 line ins for my outboard pres. It can also run with the 40 channel or LS56, for additional I/O.

Yeah, everyone recommends MOTU but I wasn't seeing anything in my price range.

The Firestudio Mobile looks good but I found a used Impact Twin for $230 so I went with it. Will report back. Thanks guys.
