Yeah it was kind of a perfect storm of sorts: deals presented themselves, money was already saved, projects that had a lot of hours and had been delayed were finished and people paid up.Brett Siler wrote:Dang boiii! Some nice gear!losthighway wrote: This week:

I doubt I'll ever drop that much in a week again for years. It has been good to start using this stuff a lot because it has really affirmed how sonically valuable both these mics and comp are. To be honest I was a little scared, just cause I don't get to pull the trigger and buy very often.

Did a little drinking some weeks ago, did some drunk-bidding.
Gotta MXL V69ME; love it on vocals and amps, still have the original GT tube in it I may swap out.
Calrad 10-15; hi-z lo-fi but looks cool, like a old EV Slendyne but made in Japan.
Shure 565DS: nice old Unisphere, pre-SM58 but seems a little less "mid-rangey", nice on BV's, and amps along with a ribbon; very heavy. But I think I like the 545 better ...
Shure PE589; looks very cool, but pretty lo-fi sounding, but works nicely on BV's with no EQ, industrial build.

It's pretty awesome actually. I got it from a long time client in exchange for knocking some money off his bill. He's had it for years and didn't like it but I've ended up using it on almost every record we've made together.
Once you get over it not sounding like a piano it's ton's of fun to play. It's more like a combo organ with attack and decay.
The good stuff really happens when you start mangling it with guitar pedals.

Yeah I dig that kind of stuff. I've gotten great stuff out of organs, despite having several great synths laying around, there is some magic in them...especially the Yamaha YC45D.A.David.MacKinnon wrote:It's pretty awesome actually.
