How to sync Tascam 388 and 80-8
Hi I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I could sync my Tascam 388 and 80-8? I've been loving and using my 388 for a few years now which I got for $300 here in Perth, Western Australia, a friend of mine who plays in Pond got his 388 for $900 and paid that again to ship it from Seattle! what a chump.
Anyway I just recently scored the 80-8 and a cheap akai 2 track for $400 and want to sync the two tascans.
Please help me xenu.

Yeah I know I could bounce down but I'm just curious about the possibility ofcurtiswyant wrote:What's your goal? More tracks?
Why not record on the 388 and bounce to the Teac?
running them together for shits and/or giggles
That would require a synchronizer. Like tape machines I don't believe any one manufactures them anymore. It requires laying SMPTE time code down on a track on both tape machines (you loose two track for audio recording). The snychronizer controls the tape speed of one of the machines keeping alignment between the machines by reading and comparing the time code. The tape machine has to be designed to accept external transport servo control. ( which the 80-8 might have). In my opinion the whole thing will probably be more hassle then it's worth. You would probably be better off looking for a 16 track machine.

I think you could probably find a synchronizer on ebay. There were a ton of them in use back in the 80s 90s.
The hard part will be finding the connector deal for hooking it up to the synchronizer.
IIRC the 80-8 did have a remote transport connection, but it's not anything standard like 9 pin.
The easy part is getting the timecode on tape. There are dozens of devices that can spew timecode. Some old drum machines, many MOTU products, much post production gear.
