replacement 3.5mm headphone plug
The 3.5mm plug on my Beyer 990 Headphones has finally bitten the dust. Want to replace the plug but can't seem to find plugs with threading to attach a 1/4" adapter.
I like the threaded adapters for obvious reasons of physical stability, and I need access to both sizes.
Does anybody know if this exists in the replacement plug world? Extra points if there's a right angle version...

Sony headphones use the same config, at least 7506's do ...
But Sweetwater says about the Beyers, "Easy servicing / all parts replaceable", so mebbe call them.

I might do that. I thought it would be easier to just order something perhaps sturdier and I could solder it on in just a few minutes.vvv wrote:Sony headphones use the same config, at least 7506's do ...

I'm also think of just putting on a 1/4" plug, then making like a little 4" extension that goes from 1/4" to 3.5mm for when I'm going straight out of my laptop, but I just thought it would be easier to find this kind of plug. I assumed it was somewhat universal (at least I know that Beyer, Sony and Sennheiser use them), but I may just have to deal with something else...

Thanks for that info.Scodiddly wrote:Beyer, Shure, and Sony all seem to use the same adapter dimensions, so whoever you can get the plug from would be OK. Shure is usually cheapest but I think they do all molded 3.5mm plugs.
I haven't run across any aftermarket plugs with that thread.
Just to follow up, this is what I ended up doing yesterday. We'll see if it ends up being the most convenient configuration...

I was going to just put the 3.5mm plug on the headphones, but even that neutrik one feels just too flimsy to be the main connect point for such a nice piece of gear. The amphenol 1/4" plug, by comparison, feels like a Sherman tank. (These were the plugs I had laying around from some previous projects)

Canare makes a mini connector that's pretty damn durable. I dunno how its strain relief would be on such a thin cable, but after trying out a few different 1/8" connectors I'm not planning on buying anything but Canare's connector in future.
