need help with monitoring during recording on fostex model 80
hello! i have a tascam m208 mixer and a fostex model 80. i love the setup, only trouble is when i plug in the inserts into the m208 to route to the fostex inputs, my monitoring through headphones goes completely silent. i know the model 80 cannot monitor tape while recording, but is there any way to monitor the mixers signal while recording? i cant seem to get any sound in my headphones anymore as soon as i plug the insert cables in, but its all recording correctly and getting signal into the machine! sorry if this is a dumb question, id really appreciate some advice.

Inserts send and receive signal via the same cable, useful for patching in a piece of gear like a compressor. If you're using the inserts to output to your tape machine, then the signal's not coming back like it's supposed to. Try plugging the cables in halfway, that's a common trick to use inserts as direct outs.
