Re: Hotel Earth studio 1 build diary
once you explained that the inner and outer walls were separate and did not touch, that answered my question.Theo_Karon wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 10:48 amdigitaldrummer, re-reading this it seems I may have misunderstood your very direct inquiry; in response to the question you actually asked, no, there's no decoupling between the joists and the top plate.
but unless you are floating the floors too, wouldn't that contribute to transmission between the wall segments? But maybe not enough to care about...

That's a lot of lumber! You're really kicking butt on this build.

Re: Hotel Earth studio 1 build diary
Woof. Long time no update, apologies! I've been ending each day too exhausted to do much more than crawl into bed, cuddle the dog and watch The Vow on HBO with my wife (cult doc fans take heed, this one is worth the journey!). I'm now in Austin TX helping my amazing mom pack up and move to Tucson - I just packed her whole life's work of about 50 years of paintings into a big u-haul; it was pretty amazing to see the entire arc of her relationship with that medium cooked down into about 200 squares of canvas... but I digress!
We fired up the console finally and only two out of five power supplies blew up. Considering the thing's been off for about three years and long overdue for a recap, I'm pleased with this result. Tech genius Ken Pearsall is helming the restoration; first we're just getting everything back up to spec, and then will be implementing some modifications to improve the flexibility and workflow (we are not messing with the audio path).
Green glue manages to smell worse than I'm able to remember every time around. Sort of a bodily smell, as though something has gone terribly wrong. Like working inside the mouth of a senescent, febrile ogre.
Interior drywall is all done, and I've completed three out of five window assemblies. I took a couple in progress shots, but if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I'm too tired to do the whole rundown but here are the photos:
I am not as far along as I had hoped to be at this point in time, a result which I am sure is surprising to no one.
If I ever start threatening to build another one of these after this one is finished, someone please come beat some sense into me

Looks great! And that still-unused stack of drywall sheets says that you'll either end up dead or looking like a bodybuilder.

My wife just started a new job as a carpenter's apprentice. Unfortunately, her current job site also required her to learn how to hang drywall over the last two weeks. Installing, taping, mudding, skim coating... stoked she now knows how to do it better than me and will be assisting me when that time comes!
