Reducing/removing a tambourine from a finished mix?

No need for apologies -- the question got answered!! :)
Thanks for the suggestions -- I'll try the "flipping the phase" trick with the original tambourine part and the instrumental stem. And if that doesn't work, I'm sure a bit of EQ during mastering will improve things somewhat. (It's not like the mix was ruined or anything -- just one of those little things that you wish you could take back...)

the tambo track has to be lined up EXACTLY with the mix in order for it to work. but when it works, damn it seems like magic even though it isn't at all.
i used this trick recently to do the opposite: i wanted to remix an old song, but i was missing one or two files from the multitracks. so i made a mix, lined it up exactly with the old mix (which had the now-missing elements), flipped the phase on the new mix, ET VOILA!
ms morespace thought i was Really Clever.

I wonder if one could copy the track, EQ out everything but tambourine, and use that for the phase flip? That way you'd be guaranteed that the tracks would have identical timing...
...or would that just make a bigger mess? It would probably notch cymbals.
FWIW, just about every recording decision I've made in the last three years that I wished I could take back has wound up seeming like no big deal six months later.

"Legs" by ZZ Top has a tambourine that's too loud, especially towards the end, not particularly well-played. i kind of like it
